MUIR MCNEIL ARE ALL ABOUT SYSTEM, PROCESS & FORM

Hamish Muir and Paul McNeil: typographers and academics with an inspiring body of heavenly work.

Hamish Muir and Paul McNeil, leading typographers and academics have taught in the Design School at LCC for many years, upholding the legacy of typographic innovation and experimentation at the London College of Communication.

They have just published a new book, System Process Form, now available on the Volume Editions website. Hamish Muir hope that friends, students and colleagues might wish to support it.

Published by Unit Editions, System Process Form is a detailed survey of the MuirMcNeil Two Type System, an extensive collection of geometric alphabets where every stroke, shape, letterform and word is designed to work together in close harmony. Far from a mere catalogue of typefaces, the publication is a demonstration of the utility and beauty of analytical approaches to form-giving for visual communication, one whose end results can be as spectacular as they are unexpected. Hundreds of striking visual examples are displayed in the book, printed in three sumptuous neon inks and metallic black throughout.

Both the standard and limited collector’s editions of System Process Form are now available at Volume, together with a range of uniquely delicious rewards, and a set of related visual assets can be downloaded here.

They will launch new book projects regularly, often with limited-edition rewards which may go quickly. To be notified as new campaigns launch on Volume and to ensure you can support and receive the edition you most want, please sign up to our newsletter.

Volume is a publishing platform for high-quality illustrated books. It hosts campaigns to fund, produce and sell beautiful printed editions created by the world’s leading artists, designers and as-yet-undiscovered talents. Pledging for a Volume publication is easy. Browse our current funding projects here, and select the edition you would like from the Rewards menu. Your pledge will count towards the funding goal required to produce the book. Funding goals are set by Volume and each book’s creator. The target amount includes a wide range of costs, and costs vary widely from project to project. Depending on the state of the project when it is launched on Volume, these might include editorial, design, prepress, printing and shipping costs.

Other expenses might include special photography or picture research. Materials, packaging and printing methods also have a significant bearing on a book’s cost, particularly illustrated editions. Once a goal is met, publication will proceed and you will receive your chosen edition by the indicated delivery date. Should the goal not be met within the allotted time period, your pledge will be refunded. Backers of our books will receive regular updates throughout the process with news and exclusive behind-the-scenes information.
