FILM-MAKER JESS BISHOPP AIMS SKYWARD AT LONDON FILM FESTIVAL 2022
A film career going Skyward, Jess Bishopp is featured in London Film Festival 2022.
Jessica Bishopp remembers being awarded a BFI Year membership in her first week at LCC. A few years later, this DPS graduate’s new film has been featured at the prestigious London Film Festival in the ‘This is Planet Earth’ category.
Skyward is a creative documentary exploring our relationship with nature. Young birdwatchers, Mya and Arjun, feel the pressure of climate change and the biodiversity crisis greatly. Although they feel isolated and judged by others, they are determined to stand up for what they believe in; coming of age in the age of climate chaos.
Jessica is an award-winning documentary and artist filmmaker fascinated by subcultures and myth, as well as exploring universal themes embedded in our daily lives and thoughts; exposing the magic in the mundane.
Skyward was funded by Doc Society and BFI, and another documentary she is currently developing was selected for the Short Form Station development lab at Berlinale 2020. She was also selected from over 3,000 applications to represent the UK as a director at Berlinale Talents 2020, and was also selected for IDFA Academy 2020. Recently she has been awarded development funding by the Rooftop Films Fund and the project was featured in Variety.
Jess’s work has been screened internationally at festivals such as Sheffield Doc/Fest, Aspen Shortsfest, AFI DOCS, New Orleans Film Festival (NOFF), Rooftop Films Festival, Aesthetica Short Film Festival (ASFF) and London Short Film Festival.
She has been awarded funding by Film London, Channel 4, Barbican and Arts Council. Her short documentary films have been nominated twice for the Best Director Award at Underwire Film Festival and her short artist documentary film Lifespan was broadcast on Channel 4 on their Random Acts programme. Her films have featured on The Atlantic, WeTransfer, NOWNESS and Aeon, receiving several Vimeo Staff Pick awards.
